i didn't mean to make you feel out of place by the comments on your clothing or the makeup on your face i didn't mean to preempt the chase you're the drama queen of every scene perfectly out of place only cynicism can get through to you expand the image up the insults negativism through and through all of this pretending makes me feel a bit confused you've spent your life losing yourself and now you're marked as used so you cry yourself to sleep on your blanket of snow with your tiara of barbie doll heads and your arms crossed for a pillow if you can't make up your mind just how different you should be reorganize your priorities to expect more sympathy.

take the last bus home with the quarters in your pockets left over from pinball machines at the bar many streets from your house. casino lights still flicker in your eyes your teeth taste faintly of flesh and gold tonight. you've been waiting for a long time between the dancing and the refill line she touches your wrist you start to sweat but it's just drinks and time playin' tricks. go back go back just get away from me your teeth taste faintly of flesh and gold.

fill up your mouth with smoke hourly and wash it down into your body these are directions that come with a tag you'll jerk awake when your name's called you can't tell the difference between seeing something new and breaking what you already have.

we were sitting in the back of the car watching the lights go by on the ceiling in a sleeping bag we were hungry drunk and half naked and didn't notice the time change from the last place we'd been. it still gets cold in the south at night when the winds are blowing slapping up against the windshield these blankets won't do anything at all.

life in the city everyone's busy packin' portfolios to kill competition hey boss hey boss i'm capable of making your life easier but i'm drunk on promotions. can i get you some coffee? can i make you some copies? have you seen my resume? i'm a regular go-getter. i'll take the slow life like a cowboy strayin' 'cross the open plains wandering without fear of a monday.

we were drunk and carsick when we rolled into town pulling up to the drive-in there was no one around when the lights unfolded from the sky we were the only ones to be found they were soaring through the sky we were left on the ground. sitting in the living room the dog is catching caramel corn i never wanted a change brushing teeth and combining i guess they do this everywhere i guess it's time for a change i never wanted a change i think it's time for a change.
